  • Frederick hid newspapers and books in his clothing and read them whenever he had a chance - even just a few minutes here and there!
  • Frederick said the fight with the slave breaker Edward Covey was the turning point of his life: 'He only can understand the deep satisfaction which I experienced, who has himself repelled by force the bloody arm of slavery!'
